Forstrong and SEAMARK merge under EXOS Wealth Systems

Forstrong Global Asset Management and SEAMARK Asset Management have merged under the EXOS Wealth Systems platform. The move combines Forstrong’s global asset management expertise with SEAMARK’s focus on institutional and high-net-worth clients.
A combined firm with distinct approaches
Tyler Mordy, Forstrong’s CEO and CIO, will lead the combined firm as Chief Investment Officer. James Garcelon, Forstrong’s president, will serve as CEO. Mordy highlights the changing economics of the investment management industry and the shared goal of building a stronger national platform.
The merger allows both firms to retain their investment philosophies and client relationships while leveraging EXOS’ technology and operational infrastructure. Mordy emphasizes the importance of scale and resources in today’s industry, stating, “Technology, compliance, and distribution all require greater resources.” By combining Forstrong’s B.C. headquarters with SEAMARK’s Halifax base, the platform gains geographic diversity and expanded reach across Canada.
Complementary strengths and future growth
Forstrong’s top-down global macro approach and SEAMARK’s bottom-up security selection expertise will continue independently. The combined platform enables collaboration while maintaining distinct investment processes. EXOS’ investment in technology and compliance is seen as a key advantage, allowing more focus on research and client service. Both investment teams will remain intact, preserving their established processes and client relationships, which has been a hallmark of Forstrong’s stability over the past two decades.
The merger also presents an opportunity to develop the next generation of investment leaders. Mordy aims to attract talent and build a lasting platform. He notes the potential to introduce a broader range of investment capabilities across client channels, combining SEAMARK’s equity and fixed-income expertise with Forstrong’s global macro approach. SEAMARK’s strong presence in Atlantic Canada and Forstrong’s national distribution network create synergies to expand offerings regionally and nationally.
Attracting talent and strategic partnerships
Mordy’s growth strategy includes attracting investment professionals and exploring partnerships and acquisitions. He believes the combined platform is attractive to independent firms seeking resources while maintaining their investment independence. “We think there’s a real opportunity to offer those teams the best of both worlds,” Mordy says, referring to the balance between resources and entrepreneurial spirit.
