This seminar introduces the Principles of Bau-Biologie™. Eight myths regarding current construction practices will be debunked to demonstrate the need for a new approach. Students will learn what kinds of health hazards a house may contain and how during the design and construction phases not to cause them. This seminar benefits home dwellers, architects, interior designers and other building professionals.

Topics include:
  • Bau-Biologie principles and building culture
  • Biologically-sound building materials
  • Construction and building materials
  • Heaating and thermal insulation
  • Indoor climate issues - air, water and electromagnetic radiation


This IBE sanctioned course will be offered as a pre-conference event (date to be scheduled) West Coast Green Residential Building Conference + Expo. A companion workshop entitled “Healthy Building Workshop, Bau-biologie Protocols in Practice” will be offered following the Seminar. Attendance at the Seminar is required for the workshop.

Certification as a Building Biology Practitioner also requires completion of the self-study Natural Building Course (IBE 101). Persons who attend and complete both the Seminar and Workshop will meet the Seminar requirements portion toward the BBP Certification. Students who enroll in IBE 112 and who wish to take IBE 101 - Natural Healthy Building Course will receive a $50 course discount.

IBE is a registered AIA/CES Provider. AIA members can earn Learning Units (LUs) and Healthy, Safety and Welfare (HSW) credit by attending programs offered by IBE.
